Schools & Education
Peabody Municipal Light Plant is involved in the community. We believe it's better if we begin that outreach and education when citizens are young.
Since 1984, the Peabody Municipal Light Plant has sponsored the PMLP Annual Science Fair. Students in 4th Grade team up to prepare projects that are judged by PMLP professionals. 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place, and Honorable Mention are awarded at each public school. All winners, and their parents, are invited to the Science Awards Night at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School which is also attended by teachers, school administrators, and community leaders.
We participate in Student Government Day at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School. Two students are elected by their peers to be Manager of PMLP for the day and Chair of the Peabody Municipal Lighting Commission for the day. These students also have the opportunity to work at PMLP during that summer.
PMLP is a regular exhibitor at GreenFest, where we share conservation tips and fun energy-saving gifts.
Annually at the Peabody International Festival Kids Day, PMLP promotes safety around electricity to kids, and hands out fun items and educational information.
Career Day at the Peabody Veterans Memorial High School gives us a chance to showcase the variety of jobs at PMLP and gives students insight into good local jobs in the fields of electric distribution, engineering, business and information technologies.
Our Human Resources and Community Relations Director is also an active member in the Kiwanis Club of Peabody, whose mission is helping young children from birth through college. The club partners with many community groups to keep kids safe, assist in leadership opportunities and advance literacy.
